Tuesday was Henry's first day of school. Of course my nerves were a mess. I don't know why I worry about him. I worry he misses me. I feel guilty that I'm home enjoying my day while he's at school. Does anyone else feel this guilt? I know the guilt and sadness will surely pass, but in this moment I really miss that little boy.
We had a bus scare his first day of school. Gavin and Henry have been so excited to ride the bus together. Tuesday afternoon Abbie and I had a nice coffee date and then headed down to the bus stop. The bus pulls up and I am so excited to see Henry's face. I quickly adjust the settings on my camera in order to capture this monumental exit. I see Gavin on the bus and I can tell by the looks on his and Landon's face that something is wrong. Landon runs off the bus yelling, "Miss Jessica, Henry's not on the bus!" Eeeeek!!! Not what a mom wants to hear on the first day of school. To top it off, I had left my phone at the house. Abbie and I stared at each other with expressions mixed of shock and fear and then another parent reminded us that there are two buses for Steinbach. Who would have thought so many American's lived in our tiny village that we would need two buses? But WHEW!!! My adrenaline was going strong so I had to shake that for a minute. One minute later the second bus appeared. I saw Henry sitting on the bus by himself and for some reason this broke my heart. I don't know why. Henry is very social and he will make friends in time but this crushed me. Once he spotted me through the windows his face lit up into a smile. This made me feel better. He ran off the bus and I said, "How was school?" He replied, "I loved it!"
Today is his first day riding the morning and afternoon bus. I will be another ball of nerves until I see his smiling face in a few hours.
Even though I feel guilty right now, I am getting SO much done! I worked out and then did a 4 mile run. I cleaned a little. I'm almost done with work for my business. It feels great to work with no interruptions. Henry in school is life changing for all of us. I cannot wait to hear about his day.
